Kendrapara: “If anybody tries to separate us, then we would end our lives and our families would be responsible for that. We love each other and can’t live without each other. We are not children and are old enough to take decisions. So we decided to live with each other,” said two women before the SDPO of Pattamundai in front of their families and reporters.
SDPO Ranjan Kumar Dey said the police intercepted the two women after the father of one of them, lodged an FIR Sunday alleging that his daughter was lured by the other woman
The police registered a case and launched an inquiry. The two women were found near Duhuria Chowk by the police and were brought to the SDPO’s office.
The parents of both the women were later called to the police station and the cops recorded the statement of the women, who were determined to live with each other, and threatened to commit suicide if their families tried to separate them.
The women — a 27-year-old from Tantiapalii in Mahakalapara block and a 28-year-old from Srirampur in Pattamundai block — Saturday formalised their same-sex relationship before a Notary Public in Kendrapara.
They have also vowed through an affidavit to remain companions and partners till they die. They also said that they would not seek legal aid if any problem arises in their relationship.
Sources said the women were studying in the same college, and after completing studies they joined a Cuttack–based company and stayed in a rented house. During their stay in Cuttack they both developed intimacy. The families of the women tried to separate them but in vain.
The father of one of the women had lodged a complaint at Pattamundai police station alleging that his daughter was hypnotised by the other woman. The woman forcibly took his daughter with the help of black magic, the complainant stated.
The police are going to produce the two women before the JMFC court of Pattamundai to record their statements Tuesday under Section 164 of CrPC. The women were sent to a short stay home Monday, the SDPO said.
Kendrapara SP Niti Sekhar said the two women have a legal right to live with each other after the Supreme Court struck down Section 377 of IPC partially.
