Kannauj: Uttar Pradesh man went into trauma after he received Rs 23 crore electricity bill. Victim, Abdul Basit, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj received the invoice for consuming 178 units of electricity. The exact amount charged was Rs 23,67,71,524.
“It seems like I’ve received the entire bill of Uttar Pradesh. Even if I earn money for my entire life, I’ll still be unable to pay this exorbitant amount.”
According to the Uttar Pradesh rate of consumption, 178 units means the consumer has to pay between Rs 960 to Rs 1,070.

Upon inquiry with the electricity board concerned, an official said,”due to some anomalies in reading such kinds of bills are being generated. It would be changed and meter reading will be taken again. Only after a bill is found correct, the consumer will be asked to pay for it,” he said.
It is worth mentioning that, similar instance was witnessed in May 2018 when a vegetable vendor from Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district committed suicide after receiving an erroneous electricity bill of Rs 8.64 lak for the month of March.
