Bhubaneswar: A rose exhibition and discussion on horticulture was organised at 
at Barmunda here Thursday.
With an aim to popularise the plantation of roses in the city, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) and Horticulture Society of Bhubaneswar jointly organised the event.
OUAT Vice Chancellor Surendranath Pasupallak and his wife Namita Pasupallak were the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, respectively.
Odisha Horticulture President and Professor Trinath Moharana was the keynote speaker at the discussion panel. A special book titled Roses and Odisha Journal of Horticulture-2019 was unveiled on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Professor Trinath Moharana said, “There are various myths about this exotic flower called rose but at the end of the day it’s the most cherished flower of all.” “It’s time” we all know how to grow the flower properly so that not only it perfumes one’s garden or terrace, but the entire locality,” he chuckled. He stressed that Odisha is soon going to have diverse varieties of roses in a large scale manner.
Ritarani Mahalik, a resident of Patrapada, said, “I would say that this one-day event doesn’t suffice to let us experience the rarity of the flower. The tricks and tips to cultivate roses have to be discussed thoroughly. However, it’s a welcoming sign that Odisha too has its own share of rose exhibitions.”
Professor Tusharkanti Das also stressed on the need to cultivate roses “in every season.”
Around 200 varieties of roses were exhibited and several farmers and gardeners were feted at the occasion by Pritiray Chand and Namrata Tripathy.
Odisha Rose Society’s president Minaketan Jena proposed the vote of thanks at the end.
