Bhubaneswar, April 21: Heatwave conditions continued to paralyse normal life in many parts of the state with Talcher remaining the hottest at 43.5 degrees Celsius Tuesday.
As many as 14 places have recorded above 40 degrees Celsius with Angul remaining the second hottest with 42.7 degrees followed by Jharsuguda and Bolangir at 42 degree Celsius each.
The Meteorological Centre here has said the condition would prevail in northern part of the state during the next 48 hours while there are chances of rain or thundershower at a few places including the capital city in the next 24 hours.
“The heavy wind flow over the city and a few other coastal regions is helping in bringing in moisture from the sea. Also, the heat over the land has favoured generation of a system that triggered rainfall in the city and a few coastal districts of the state Tuesday evening. This will continue for the next 24 hours,” said Met director Sarat Sahu.
High temperatures were also recorded at Balasore (41.6), Chandbali (40.2), Sambalpur (41.1), Sundargarh (40.5), Bhawanipatna (41.2), Hirakud (41.8), Titlagarh (40.5), Malkangiri (40.6), Sonepur (40.4) and the state capital that has recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius for the fourth consecutive day.
The weatherman has further predicted partly cloudy sky for the Capital City and its neighbouring areas, adding rain and thundershower may occur in the afternoon. Wednesday’s maximum and minimum temperatures may remain at 42 and 26 degrees Celsius in the city respectively.
