Jharsuguda: A minor boy was burnt alive Tuesday by unidentified miscreants over suspected hostilities with his family here in this district.
The deceased has been identified as Akshay Oram, 12, of Chithuapada under Sadar police limits. The boy who had suffered 90% burns succumbed to his injuries while he was undergoing treatment at VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla.
According to sources, the incident took place while Akshay had gone to attend a devotional music programme at his village. Meanwhile, some miscreants invited him to an isolated place where they doused kerosene over him before setting him afire.
Akshay was rescued with critical burn injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. After preliminary treatment, he was shifted to VIMSAR, Burla, where he breathed his last.
Although the exact reason behind the crime is yet to be established, relatives suspected that it could be past enmity. On being informed, police reached the spot and launched a probe to ascertain the reason behind the incident.
“We are probing into all angles of the case and the accused will be arrested soon,” police added.
