Balugaon: One person died and five others were injured in a road mishap at Subudhi Patana NH 16 bypass road in Khurdha district Monday afternoon. The deceased, identified as Bhagirathi Bhujabal, 50, of Totapada was sitting on a parked motorcycle alongside the road.
The biker died instantaneously when a Berhampur-bound car hit him from behind. The car also rammed a shop before overturning causing injuries to shopkeeper Bichitra Bisoyi and four women and a man aboard the car. Locals rushed the victims to the hospital.
Angered by the incident, the villagers held up traffic for three hours. Balugaon IIC Sarat Patra and Chilika additional tehsildar Aparna Bhoi reached the spot and announced an ex gratia of Rs 10,000 from Red-Cross to the kin of the deceased. Police took the body for postmortem before handing it over to the bereaved family.
