Rayagada: Acting on a tip-off, Kalyansinghpur police arrested a Maoist commander here in Rayagada district, Friday evening. The arrested rebel has been identified as Sriram Suna of Nishikhal village.
According to police sources, Suna had joined the Maoist in 2011 and was working for Niyamagiri committee of the outlawed organisation. He was reportedly involved in various violence activities including an attack on a road construction office camp under the Kalyansinghpur police limits.
Suna has been forwarded to court in connection with torching of construction vehicles in 2017.
Notably in February 2017, a group of red rebels had caused violence during road construction work in Parsali and Gumma. The Maoists has torched a JCB machine and a tractor.
Following the incident, contractor Dinabandhu Choudhury had lodged a complaint in the police station and probe was initiated into the incident. After two years, the mastermind militia Suna has been finally arrested by the cops.
