Binjharpur, April 27: In the wake of a school teacher allegedly impregnating a class IX girl in Ramachandrapur village under the police limits in Jajpur district, members of the district child welfare committee (DCWC) and district child protection unit (DCPU) conducted a joint inquiry and lodged a complaint with the police Monday.
The team comprising DCWC chairperson Bidulata Das, member Nityananda Mishra and
district child protection officer Mihir Kumar Jena arrived in the village under Barapada panchayat and had a mixed response over the incident during probe.
While the victim’s family turned hostile during the probe, they were equally dismayed over
relaxed attitude of school
authorities and education officials. The only silver lining was a class IV employee of the high school giving them some clues.
The team visited the nodal school where Sikshya Sahayak Paresh Majhi was working and then to the victim’s Ramachandrapur High School.
The officials were disappointed after they found the nodal school headmistress absent and her mobile phone was switched off. They even visited her residence but found it locked from outside. They later talked to the high school headmaster Gangadhar Das, who feigned ignorance over the issue
They later talked to a class IV employee of the high school who claimed that two weeks ago the victim’s father visited the school at midnight and searched for his daughter. He also said that Majhi used to teach the girl from 5 pm till 8 pm inside the school premises. Some of the villagers also
confirmed his statements.
The victim’s family members, however, turned hostile when the team members reached her home to record their statements. They locked the victim inside the house and questioned them for visiting their home. The girl’s father
remained silent when they asked if he had visited the school to search his daughter at midnight two weeks ago, officials said.
Even the cluster resources centre coordinator (CRCC) Sheikh Shamsuddin and block resources centre coordinator (BRCC) Pramod Mishra failed to give any
convincing reply as to why Majhi went on leave from the school.
This gave sufficient credence to the suspicion of sexual harassment of the girl following which the officials lodged a complaint with the police station.
When contacted, IIC Asit Ranjan Mohanty said action will be taken against the accused after completion of the probe.
