Kendrapara, April 27: A total of 335 people from Pattamundai and Aul tehsils of Kendrapara district are stranded in Nepal, as per official reports here. However, most of their family members here said their kin are safe but facing a tough time as relief materials are yet to reach them.
Kendrapara collector Debraj Senapati said he has directed sub-collector, tehsildars, DLO and revenue inspectors to conduct an inquiry by visiting these villages to ascertain the exact number of people from the district stranded in Nepal.
It was found that 326 persons from Pattamundai and nine from Aul worked in Nepal. Most of them are plumbers. While three including a woman from Badaanko village sustained injuries in the earthquake, two from Pattamundai sustained injuries in the mishap. All are reported to be safe.
The injured from Aul were identified as Khirod Behura, Manoj Behura and Mamata Behura under Balakati gram panchayat. All of them have sustained minor injuries while those from Pattamundai included Bulakumar Sethy of Amrutamanohi village and Ganeswar Panda of ChandanNagar.
Most of the persons stranded in Nepal have communicated with their families here and they do not want to come back. Meanwhile, DLO Satyanarayan Acharya started an inquiry on this matter and he would submit the report before the collector Tuesday.
Nandini Sethy, a widow from Penthapala village, said she failed to contact her only son, Jogi, who was in Nepal when the quake struck. “My son was engaged in a Viratganj-based private firm as a plumber. I have no news of him. I can only pray for his safety,” she said with tears rolling down her cheeks.
However, several families were jubilant Monday after they received telephone calls from their relatives in Nepal.
Sailabala Biswal, who received a telephone call from her husband, said her husband, Susant Biswal, who worked as a plumber at Nawakot in Nepal for five years, telephoned her Monday and told her that he was safe.
