Puri, April 29: The state government has evolved a plan to install round-the-clock close circuit television (CCTV) camera surveillance system here.
Orissa Police Housing Corporation has been roped in for the project and `10 crore has been earmarked by the state government. The CCTV camera surveillance system is scheduled to be launched ahead of Nabakalebar festival, district administration sources said.
They said 159 fixed CCTV cameras and 31 movable cameras will be installed across the city. Srimandir will have 45 fixed cameras and 17 rotating cameras.
As many as 114 stationary cameras and 14 rotating devices will be installed elsewhere in the city including Badadanda, Atharnala, Harekrushnapur, new bus stand at Malatipatpur, Talabania, city bus stand, VIP Road, railway station, Subhash Bose Square, Mochi Sahi, Nrusingha Mandir Square and Gaurang Square, sources added.
District administration sources said a state-of-the-art control room will be set up at Town police station and a sub-control room on Srimandir premises. Besides, an exclusive traffic control room will be set up at Kumbharpada police outpost. The state government will deploy a modern scanner at the South Gate of Srimandir and a portable scanner at the Lion’s Gate.
“The police housing corporation has been asked to complete the project by June 15. The CCTV project was initiated recently. The state government has deputed 25 police personnel including a sub-inspector to manage the surveillance system,” superintendent of police Ashis Kumar Singh said.
