Bhubaneswar: Acting on a grievance petition, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has asked Works and Water Resources Departments to stop percentage commission (PC) culture.
After receiving the letter from PMO, Works under secretary Muktikant Patra has written a letter to the concerned section of the department to take necessary action.
“Grievance petition bearing No PMOPG/E/2017/0593927 dated November 14, 2017 received from the Prime Minister’s Office, Government of India, New Delhi, on the above subject filed by Sanjay Rout, I am directed to request you to take necessary action in the matter under intimation to the O&M Section,” Patra said in his letter.
In his petition, Rout had requested PMO to stop the percentage system in Works department and Water Resources department to curb corruption.
In June 2017, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik himself admitted about ongoing PC culture and asked the district Collectors to stop collecting percentage commission for
undertaking government work orders at block-level in the state.
“The PC collection system should be stopped,” Patnaik had said at Collectors’ conference here.
Not only the PMO, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also slammed the state government over the corruption issue while addressing public rallies in Odisha.
In September last year, Modi had said without paying bribe the beneficiaries are denied fruits of central welfare programmes be it construction of toilet or that of irrigation.
“There is tardy development in Odisha due to ‘PC’ (percentage commission) which leads to delay in decisions,” Modi had said.
