Balasore: In a shocking incident, an Odia girl from Raibania area under Sadar police limits in Balasore district was reportedly kidnapped and gang-raped by a group of youths from West Bengal.
The matter came to light after the youths uploaded the video of the incident and some obscene photographs of the girl on social media platforms that went viral in no time. The victim with her mother approached the local police and lodged a complaint in this connection.
Police swung into action and launched a probe after registering a case in this connection. Steps are being taken to delete the video from social media platforms and arrest the rapists.
According to sources, the incident occurred last Dussehra festival. The girl had visited a fair in the nearby area, which is on the border of West Bengal and Odisha.
When she was roaming at the Dussehra festival ground, some youths from the nearby village of the neighbouring state kidnapped her and took her to a nearby jungle, where they took turns to rape her. The youths had also filmed the nude video and had threatened the victim not to reveal the matter to anyone.
Fearing threat to her life and social stigma, the victim had remained silent. However, after the obscene video and photographs did rounds on social media, it came to the notice of the victim’s family. Later, the girl along with her parents moved to the local police station and filed a written complaint against the youths Friday.
