Nishchintakoili: Irate people set three trucks on fire including the ‘Hyva’ that crushed two pillion riders under its wheels near Shibanada School on Katikata-Jeypore road under this block in Cuttack district late Thursday night. The rider was injured in the mishap.
The deceased were identified as Jyotish Das (26) and Dillip Das (30) of Doilo village under Tirtol police limits.
The tension continued till Friday morning when the mob staged a demonstration blocking the entire stretch. They alleged plying of heavy vehicles has virtually made the lives of people vulnerable. They have demanded a curb on the movement of heavy vehicles on the stretch.
Sources said, Dillip and Jyotishi had gone to Tarat village to perform ‘Laudi’ dance on another’s bike. After performing, they were returning home at night. It was when they came near Shibanada school, the Hyva truck hit their bike. The impact was so intense that, Dillip and Jyotish were tossed onto the road and then crushed to death.
The injured person is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
On being informed, police reached the spot and seized the bodies for post-mortem. Investigation is on, police sources said. There was no information as to whether the driver of the vehicle which rammed the bike, has been arrested or not.
