Bhubaneswar: More than 60 lakh voters are expected to exercise their voting rights Thursday as polling began at 7.00am for electing candidates to four Lok Sabha constituencies and 28 Assembly segments in Odisha. The Lok Sabha constituencies where voting is currently on are Kalahandi, Nabrangpur, Berhampur and Korput.
There was brisk start to the elections with the turnout looking good since voting began in the four constituencies. It seemed that with high temperatures expected during day, the voters were keen finish exercising their rights early on.
The 28 Assembly constituencies where voting is simultaneously on are Umerkote, Nuapada, Khariar, Nabrangpur, Jharigam, Dabugam, Gopalpur, Koraput, Pottangi, Lanjigarh, Junagarh, Dharamgarh, Malkangiri, Bhawanipatna, Narla, Chhatrapur, , Berhampur, Digapahandi, Chikiti, Mohana, Paralakhemundi, Gunupur, Bissam Cuttack, Rayagada, Laxmipur, Kotpad, Jeypore, and Chitrakonda.
It should be stated here that polling in booth number 162 at Parabeda High School under the Jeypore Assembly constituency started 45 minutes behind schedule due to some technical problems. Sources said that some of the EVM machines were not working properly, even though there was no official confirmation on the issue.
