Cuttack, May 18: Favourites Orissa bowed out of the women’s National Sub-Junior Football Championships after going down 1-3 to Bihar in their second group league quarterfinal match at the Barabati Stadium here Monday. In another match of the same group, Mizoram mauled Chandigarh 19-0.
This was Orissa’s second successive loss in the group. Both Mizoram and Bihar ensured their places in the last four with two wins each. The two teams will face each other Wednesday to decide top spot in the group.
It was a listless display by the Orissa eves, who in spite of taking an early lead in the 11th minute through Dipa Nayak, failed to hold on to it. The hosts were sluggish and the Bihar eves took full advantage of it to come back strongly into the match.
Soni Kumari scored a hat-trick to dash Orissa’s chances. She struck in the 41st minute to bring Bihar back on parity and then scored within a minute again to put her side ahead. After change of ends, Soni completed her hat-trick with a lovely strike in the 72nd minute.
In the rout of Chandigarh, B Vanlalhariattiri got eight goals including a double hat-trick for Mizoram. The other goals were scored by E Vanlalmauii (four goals), R Lalrinmawii (three), GH Lalrampari (two), R Vanlalpeki and K Lallawmawni (one each).
