Bhubaneswar: A day after the investigation of Khurda BJP leader murder case was entrusted to Central range IG Soumendra Priyadarshi, it was routed from district police and handed over to Crime Branch Tuesday.
Briefing reporters on this issue Police DG BK Sharma cited heavy work pressure on police behind the sudden change.
“Prioritising the case and keeping the work pressure of Khurda police in mind, this case has been assigned to the Crime Branch who can conduct the inquiry in a dedicated fashion,” said Sharma.
“He further informed that DSP Pramod Rath has been made the investigating officer in this case. A special investigative team of Crime Branch has already reached Khordha. It will be assisted by a forensic team,” he added.
The investigation will be spearheaded by Crime Branch IG Arun Bothra.
It may be mentioned here that a local BJP leader – identified as Manguli Jena – was shot dead late Sunday night in Khurda town. The town has been on a boil since. The saffron party had accused BJD’s role in the murder and had called for six-hour bandh to protest against the alleged political violence Monday.
