BHUBANESWAR: A two-day fashion and lifestyle expo ‘Sutraa’ was inaugurated at a city hotel Friday. The event catered to the needs of fashionistas and casual shoppers alike with a wide range of products including tunics, gowns, decors, footwear, purses, fabrics and costume jewellery among others.

Around 60 stalls were installed at the exhibition that witnessed a huge crowd on its first day. Interacting with Orissa Post, director, Sutraa, said, “This year, we have brought our summer-spring collections as well as Heavy Saree collections for the upcoming wedding season. We are expecting a huge number of buyers as designers from Jeypore, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and many other states have participated with exclusive designs. These are not available in any other store.”

A visitor Sarita Mohanty came for the wide variety of jewellery on offer at the expo. For Banita Das, it was the variety of shades of sarees and dresses that made her shop. Many clients made a beeline for Mahesh Pickle, Pappad and Wadian Pan Masalas.

Colours that dominated the show were Pristine White, Beige, Coral Red, Fuchisa Pink, English Rose and Aqua. Every buyer had her work cut out in terms of choosing the right attire for each occasion. Apart from dresses, colourful purses designed with floral and Booti work stole the show.

It was heart-warming to witness toddlers accompanying their mothers to the exhibition. Their little eyes gleamed with all the glitters, noise and chatting inside the expo. Many elderly ladies seemed to experience a gala time in the leisurely summer afternoon as they finalised on dresses to be worn for the next kitty party.

Monisha Dutta from Kolkata Colours Fab dealt with linen, raw silk and tissue incorporated in handloom sarees. Interacting with Orissa Post, she said, “I am selling customised Tussar sarees with beads. This particular item is selling like hot cakes. The crowd of Bhubaneswar is awesome. They have a good sense of colour as well as fabric.”

Yashika Sharma’s collection of Kurti and Palazo had buyers swooning. Those were trendy and attractive. Suchismita Baral, a maker of customised Jadau jewellery, said, “Jadau is in demand these days. The grace of its pearls beats that of a diamond. It takes around 15 days to create a pair of heavy Jadu necklace with matching earrings. Artistes from Rajasthan and Kutch are the best in manufacturing it. I received a bulk order of 40 pairs from Bhubaneswar.”
