BHUBANESWAR: An epic music video ‘Subharambha’ was launched on ‘Panaa Sankranti’ (Odia New Year) to mark a whole new beginning of Odia identity and content creation. And true to its spirit, within no time, the video has taken the social media by storm. Besides normal viewers, eminent writers, poets and movie critics of Odisha are appreciating this video as it truly glorifies Odia culture and heritage.
It is the maiden music video of ‘Uttisthata Jagrata’ campaign named ‘Subharambha’, based on Pandit Godabarisha Mahapatra’s timeless classic ‘Utha Kankala’. has been released on Youtube on 14th April 2019 (Odia New Year).
Produced by Panchabati Srujanalaya in association with Jeypore Film Company the music video has been conceived by Tosh Nanda and directed by Vishal Patnaik (Odisha state award winning director for film ‘Chondalo’) with award-winning film production company ‘BnR Films’ being the official Publicity Partner.
Tosh Nanda, the convener of ‘Uttisthata Jagrata’ campaign, who is also the music composer, singer, editor and project designer said, “The sole objective of ‘Uttisthata Jagrata’ campaign and Panchabati Srujanalaya is to rejuvenate the lost sense of pride in every Odia’s heart for their culture and roots using the medium of cinema. We intend to make more such Odia classics into music videos and cinema to preserve it for the generations to come.”
Over 30 distinctive artists, cultural activists and ‘Swabhimani’ Odias from all over Jeypore have worked hard for ‘Subharambha’ irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The audience has unanimously embraced ‘Subharambha’ as a very positive sign for music & film industries alike. Critics have thoroughly appreciated the concept, acting, direction, music, cinematography, editing, VFX, production and design.
The team has achieved technical brilliance by their awe-inspiring dedication. However, what makes it special is the fact that this has been conceptualised and executed by a very young team from a remote town like Jeypore. Probably, it is much easier to envision such a project in a place like Bhubaneswar or Cuttack or any other city in India, thanks to the easy availability of industry professionals and studios. However conceptualizing and realizing a project of such scale and grandeur in Jeypore is unprecedented as it demands guts.
Eminent writer and poet Prativa Satpathy said, “The timeless classic “Utha Kankala” by Late Pandit Godabarisha Mahapatra gives me goose bumps till now and it excites each Odia to do something for Odisha. When I watched this video, I was just speechless. I want more timeless poetries to be converted into musical videos so that people of Odisha can realise its worth.”
A young writer Suchi Anita said, “I have been writing short stories for the past three years and this particular poem has been filmed so beautifully that it makes me swell with pride.” Movie critic Dillip Hali said, “Interestingly, there are very few biopics based on Odia freedom fighters and poetry like Utha Kankala gives me immense pride. ‘Subharambha’ is a work of genius.”
