Kendrapara: Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi visited Kendrapara district Thursday to review the post-Fani relief works.
Principal Secretary of Water Resources Department, Pradeep Kumar Jena, the Collector and the SP were also present at the review meeting held at the Collectorate.
Padhi said the district administration evacuated nearly 1.17 lakh people before the cyclone hit. He said due to the preventive measures only three lives were lost in the district.
“I have reviewed electricity supply restoration in the district. Till now 80 per cent of electricity supply has been restored. Due to shortage of material electricity supply has not been completely restored. Steps have been taken to bring electricity supply material from Bhubaneswar. It will reach within a day or two. Electricity supply will be restored fully in the district within a few days,” the Chief Secretary said.
Water supply has been restored in most places. Of the 277 rural water supply projects, 240 have been restored. In the next 24 hours water supply would be completely restored. After that the district administration will stop supplying water through tankers, he said.
The CS said relief material has been supplied to most people of the district. The government is going to cover the entire district with its relief programmes. The government’s special relief package of an extra one month quota of rice and Rs 500 for NFSA and SFSA cardholders will be supplied within a few days, he said.
The assessment of damage to rabi crops is going on in the district by the agriculture and horticulture departments. Later, subsidy and other assistance will be provided as per norms to all affected farmers. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is going to announce an agriculture package soon and all affected farmers will get compensation, Padhi said.
Fani killed three people in Kendrapara district and affected 15,22,901 people in 1,592 villages. The administration evacuated 1,16,693 people and provided free food at 593 relief centres.
Around 1,751 hectares of paddy, 6,588 hectares of moong dal, 2,651 hectares of vegetables and 784 hectares of fruit trees were damaged in the cyclone.
The district administration provided an emergency supply of 570 quintals of flattened rice, 75 quintals of jaggery and 42,181.91 quintals of rice, official sources said.
