Bhubaneswar: The state government failed to fulfil its promise to restore power supply to all consumers in the capital city and Cuttack affected by extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani May 3.
Earlier, the government had claimed that they would ensure power supply to all households in the capital city and Cuttack by May 12. Though the deadline has passed, many areas in Bhubaneswar including SBI Colony, Kalinganagar, Bhagabanpur, Patrapara, Uttara, Chandaka Industrial Estate, Barang and Kalarahanga are still in dark.
Information and Public Relation (I&PR) secretary Sanjay Singh, who himself made the tall claim to restore power supply by May 12 midnight, has admitted that they have failed to fulfil the promise.
Speaking to reporters here, Singh said, “There are still some areas in Bhubaneswar, where power connection at consumer level has not been restored. We hope those left out areas will be covered within one or two more days.”
According to data provided by Singh, at least 23,185 households in the capital city are yet to get back power. Out of 2,42,772 urban consumers in three electrical divisions of Bhubaneswar, power has been restored at 2,19,587 households.
Out of a total of 58,772 consumers under BCDD-I division of Bhubaneswar, 55,732 have been reconnected. Similarly, power supply has been restored to 90, 000 out of 97, 000 consumers under BCDD-II division. There are 87, 000 consumers under Bhubaneswar Electrical Division (BED) and power supply has been given to 73,855 consumers, the secretary said.
However, all 121 urban feeders in these three electrical divisions have been restored and work is going on to provide electricity to all including rural feeders by May 15, Singh said. In Cuttack too, the feeders have been charged. But, domestic power supply has not been restored in all areas of the city.
