Bhubaneswar, May 30: Commissionerate Police has sent a proposal to the state government to increase the number of PCR vehicles in the city, a top police officer told Orissa POST.
“We have 33 PCR vehicles. We need 10-15 more PCR vehicles to maintain law and order in the city properly,” said the police officer.
The special secretary, department of home, Lalit Das, IPS, said they have received a letter from the Commissionerate Police urging them to increase the number of PCR vehicles. “We have forwarded the commissionerate police’s request to the state finance department. After the finance department clears it we will proceed,” he said.
The CP has also urged the state government to increase the number of its officers, police sources said.
A policeman stationed at Khandagiri pointed out that they cover a radius of at least 70 km and covering such a vast area with only two PCR vehicles is very difficult.
Police sources said that once the Rasulgarh flyover is open to traffic, criminals can easily enter the city using the overbridge as it will directly land them in Nayapalli.
“Several anti-social elements who come to the city from Berhampur use Salia Sahi as a safe haven. The influx of such anti-social elements can only be checked by sturdy patrolling in the city,” they said.
