Bhubaneswar: Five persons are reported to have died due to sunstroke in different places of the state Friday.
Dharanidhar Sahu, a resident of Belbahali village in Keonjhar, suffered heatstroke while working on the terrace of his house and died on the spot. In another incident, an elderly person collapsed while collecting kendu leaves in Thakurpali forest of Nuapada. Another elderly man, who had come to Gurudikhal Bazaar in Bolangir, lost his life reportedly due to sunstroke, while another elderly person, Lakshmi Prasad Dehury, died in Boudh after suffering a stroke on account of severe heat.
Meanwhile, a bulletin issued by the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of the SOA Deemed to be University Friday said numerical models indicate that rise in day temperature will be experienced in districts of western and interior Odisha during the next few days but there will be variation of day to day temperature in the coastal areas.
Day temperature will vary between 43 and 46 degrees C in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Bolangir, Boudh, Angul , Nuapada and Kalahandi districts between May 18 and 28, the bulletin said.
The coastal belt, which was pulverised by the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani May 3, will experience variation of day to day temperature due to occurrence of sea breeze during noon or early part of afternoon hours. Continued on P4
