Bhubaneswar, June 1: Breaking the past two years’ pass records, 76.75 per cent of students succeeded in the higher secondary examination (Plus II) 2015 results, which were announced by higher education minister Pradip Panigrahi here Monday.
Against 69.92 per cent of students who had succeeded in the Plus II examinations in 2013, the figure had dropped to 67.48 per cent in 2014.
Unveiling the result booklet, Panigrahi said, “As many as 3.56lakh students had appeared for the exam in all the three streams (arts, science and commerce), out of which 2.73lakh cleared it. The overall pass percentage in all streams worked out to 76.75 per cent.”
A total of 2.3lakh candidates appeared for the test in arts out of which 1.75lakh succeeded with a pass rate of 76.31 per cent. Similarly, 75,434 students passed in science out of 93,920 while 22,391 students succeeded in commerce out of 32, 226 students with a percentage of 80.31 per cent and 69.48 per cent respectively.
Nayagrah district topped in arts with a pass rate of 87.92 per cent while the tribal-dominated Rayagada district had the lowest rate of 61.08 per cent. In science stream, Baleswar district topped with 92.60 per cent while Jharsuguda was at the lowest with a 67.96 per cent. In commerce, Phulbani saw a success rate of 85.05 per cent while Deogarh had a dismal show of 32.78 per cent.
Girls outperformed boys in all three streams. The total pass percentage of girls is 81.52 against boys’ 72.36 per cent. The male and female percentage in arts is 70.16 and 81.49 per cent, 78.51 per cent and 83.23 per cent in science and 66.80 per cent and 75. 67 per cent in commerce.
Higher education secretary Gagan Kumar Dhal said 15,231 students secured first division in arts, while 18,459 and 3,326 students got first division in science and commerce streams respectively. Out of 11,276 students who appeared in Plus II vocational courses, only 6,546 students cleared the exam.Council of higher secondary education chairman Basudeb Chhatoi said only four science and commerce colleges recorded zero results while 4,200 students were booked for malpractices. CHSE declared to conduct instant examination for failed students. They would fill in forms between June 4 and June 9 while the tests will be held between June 26 and 30.
