Bhubaneswar, June 2: The problems faced by bachelors seeking rented accommodation in the city were highlighted in a play staged at Bhanjakala Mandap in the city Tuesday.
The Oriya play, ‘Ghara Bhada’, which was directed by Satya Jena and staged by Lavanya Theatre, struck a chord with a large section of the audience, which also appreciated the depiction of the theme by the artistes.
“Many bachelors often face problems in finding accommodation was the house owners are reluctant to let out their houses to unmarried people. We just tried to portray the problems faced by bachelors while hunting for houses. The drama is about their struggle and how a bachelor tried to hoodwink a house owner to get accommodation,” said Ramani Ranjan who wrote the play.
The play, which started around 7 pm, drew people from various age groups. “The subject of the play attracted me. My friends and I just could not afford to miss it. We as bachelors in this city have often faced this problem. We wanted to see how this has been portrayed through drama,” says 26-year-old Priyam Mohanty who is preparing for banking examinations.
“I often come to see plays here. The humour infused into the scripts often steals the hearts of the audience. I am a fan of plays, so I came to watch those staged here. Moreover, the theme was also entertaining,” said Sonalika Patel, a third-year engineering student at ITER College.
