India win, confirm WC semifinal spot

Birmingham: India registered a comfortable 28-run victory over Bangladesh and conform their semifinal spot after Australia. For India Jasprit Bumrah (4/55) took four wickets while Hardik Pandya (3/60) got three.

Bangladesh in trouble

Birmingham: Bangladesh were in trouble after losing four quick wickets in 10 overs including in-form batsman Shakib Al Hasan. After 40 overs, Bangladesh were 229/6 with Md Saifuddin and Sabbir Rahman at crease.

Birmingham: India claw back into the game with two wickets through Hardik Pandya and Yuzvendra Chahal with Bangladesh reeling at 163/4. Shakib Al hasan still going strong at 57.

Mustafizur’s five-wicket haul restricts India to 314 for nine

Birmingham: In spite of a rollicking opening stand of 180 runs between Rohit Sharma (104, 92b, 7×4, 5×6) and KL Rahul (77, 92b, 6×4, 1×6), India lost their way during the middle overs and finished on 314 for 9 in their World cup encounter against Bangladesh at Edgbaston here Tuesday. Except for Rishabh Pant (48, 41b, 6×4, 1×6), none of the other batsmen came good including Virat Kohli (26). For Bangladesh, it was left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman (5/59) who stalled India’s assault. India, who at one stage look poised for a 350-plus score, thus finished well below it.

India suffer double blow as Kohli, Pandya depart

Birmingham: India’s run chase suffered a jolt as they lost both Virat Kohli (26) and Hardik Pandya (0) in quick succession. Kohli was caught at the deep trying to hit Mustafizur Rahman out of the ground while Pandya was dismissed by Soumya Sarkar. Rishabh Pant (38 batting) was keeping the Indian flag flying and giving him company was MS Dhoni. At the end of 40 overs India were 239 for five.

Rohit equals world record with fourth century

Birmingham: Rohit Sharma became the second man after Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka to score four centuries in a single World Cup when he reached 100 against Bangladesh at the Edgbaston here Tuesday. With the ton, Rohit went past Sachin Tendulkar  who had three centuries in a World Cup. However, immediately after his century Rohit (104, 92b, 7×4, 5×6) fell to part-time bowler Soumya Sarkar. India after the end of 30 overs were 181 for one with KL Rahul (72 batting) and Virat Kohli (0 batting) at the crease.

Rohit, Rahul hit half centuries as India go past 100 without loss

Birmingham: The Indian openers put their team on a firm platform with a century-plus stand of 122 runs in 20 overs in their World Cup encounter against Bangladesh at Edgbaston here Tuesday. Rohit Sharma (61 batting) made the most of a dropped chance and stroked the ball fluently while KL Rahul (57 batting) who began in a circumspect fashion blossomed as the game progressed. The way these two have batted, India can well look forward to a 300-plus total.  Rohit has so far hit three sixes while Rahul has hit one.

India off to a flier against Bangladesh

Birmingham: India were off to a flier in their World Cup encounter against Bangladesh here Tuesday as they reached 69 for without loss after the completion of 10 overs. Rohit Sharma (38 batting) and KL Rahul (28 batting) were at the crease. Rohit however, was lucky, he was grassed by Tamim Iqbal off the bowling off Mustafizur Rahman when he was on 16.

India opt to bat first, Dinesh Karthik, Bhuvneshwar Kumar replace Kedar Jadhav, Kuldeep Yadav

Edgbaston: Virat Kohli won the toss and India decided to bat first in their World Cup encounter against Bangladesh here Tuesday. India made two changes to the side that lost against England. Because of the short boundary, Bhuvneswar Kumar came in place of Kuldeep Yadav while Dinesh Karthik replaced Kedar Jadhav. Kohli opined that because the match is being played on a used pitch, the wicket may become slow in the second half for which he took the decision to bat first.
