Bhubaneswar, June 23: The Nayapalli police Tuesday arrested seven persons including five juveniles for stealing mobile phones from various parts of the city. The police apprehended Suresh Nonia (18) of West Bengal, Sangram Nonia (25) of Jharkhand and other five juveniles for stealing mobile phones from people.
The police have also seized 20 high-end mobile phones from the miscreants. Two more members of the gang, however, are still at large and the police have launched a search operation to nab them. The Nayapalli police detained at least three persons including a juvenile in connection with the same case.
“Ansuman Patnaik had lodged a complaint with us saying that his mobile phone was stolen near Pal Heights. We launched a search operation and found that several miscreants including juveniles were involved in such crimes,” the police said. The miscreants used to stay at a lodge near the railway station here and splurged on expensive food. The miscreants were paid according to their age and skills they put to use while stealing mobile phones. Based on performance, they got cash in the range of Rs 8, 000 and Rs 20,000 per month, police commissioner RP Sharma told the media.
The age of the juveniles apprehended ranged from 11 and 15, Sharma said. Sources said more members of the gang were still at large and they frequently changed their base from one state to another.
