Cuttack, June 29: A 25-year-old computer engineer from Mumbai was arrested Monday for allegedly designing and hosting a fake website of the Orissa Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE), police sources said.
Ranchi-based Sana-ul-Haq was arrested by the Orissa cyber police and produced in court here from where he was remanded in jail custody, they said. Cyber police station officials said the youth, a graduate in computer engineering from a private institution in Bhubaneswar, was working in a Mumbai firm. Following a complaint from the OJEE authorities, the cyber police were investigating the case for over a year.
The OJEE authorities had stumbled upon the fake website in January last year and lodged a complaint with Airfield police. The cyber police took up the matter subsequently and booked the youth under several sections of IPC and IT Act.
The officials said the motive behind hosting the fake website was to prepare a database of students aspiring to pursue engineering. A section of private engineering colleges might also be associated with the case, the officials said.
