Bhubaneswar, June 30: The Meteorological Centre here Tuesday said the state has received 11 per cent surplus rain in June.
“The state has received relatively good rainfall this month. The normal rainfall over the state in June is around 215mm whereas it received 11 per cent surplus rain. Last year it was 57 per cent deficient rainfall over the state,” said Met director Sarat Sahu.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), on the other hand, has detected an upper air cyclonic circulation over North Bay of Bengal between 3.1 to 5.8 km above mean sea level which is likely to convert into a low pressure and affect the state.
“There is an upper air cyclonic circulation persisting over North Bay of Bengal which may turn into a low pressure. We are tracing the cyclonic system over the sea and will inform the concerned authorities about its development,” said Sahu.
Meanwhile, several places witnessed light to moderate rain in the past 24 hours Talcher recording the highest rainfall of 72mm followed by 39.6mm at Angul, 37mm at Sundargarh and 32.2mm at Keonjhar. Cut-Bhubaneswar twin cities also received light rainfall during the period.
The IMD has further traced vigorous monsoon over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and east Uttar Pradesh in the past 24 hours. Heavy rain lashed parts of north India during the same period.
“The southwest monsoon has remained partly active over the state. However, in the absence of any significant cyclonic system or related disturbances over the sea, rainfall over most parts of the state will remain normal,” Met sources indicated.
