New Delhi: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has requested the Union Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan, to cancel the proposed merger of Central Warehousing Corporation’s (CWC) Bhubaneswar region with its Patna counterpart.
In a letter to Ram Vilas Paswan, Pradhan said the CWC-Bhubaneswar regional office was established in 1990 to tackle geographical challenges, enhance administrative efficiency and effective monitoring of the affairs.
The Union minister further stated in the letter that the Bhubaneswar region office of CWC is playing a crucial role in storage and warehousing of various essential commodities including food grains and notified food commodities of Food Corporation of India which have provided crucial assistance during disaster relief situations in the state such as the recent Cyclone Fani.
“In consideration of the vital support provided by the Bhubaneswar region to the state in times of natural disaster such as floods and cyclones, it is imperative that the current CWC-Bhubaneswar region should not be merged with CWC-Patna due to geographical and administrative burdens. I request your personal intervention for calling off the merger in the larger interest of the people Odisha,” said Pradhan.
