Dharmasala: Tension prevailed at Deoda village under Dharmasala police limits in Jajpur district Wednesday after locals staged a road blockade protesting the death of a worker who was electrocuted in the locality while working on electricity supply lines.
The deceased worker has been identified as Sarat Khatua of Digambarpur village.
According to locals, Khatua sustained severe burn injuries after he came in contact with an electric wire while he was working on live supply lines.
Resentment brew among locals as the body was left lying on the spot until arrival of the police. Angry locals blocked the road by keeping the body on Kaema-Nirhat road demanding compensation.
After announcement of Rs 10,000 from district Red Cross funds and Rs 15, 000 from Energy Department, the road blockade was lifted.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case in this connection and investigating further into the circumstances that led to the incident.
