post news network, Bhubaneswar, July 22: Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar celebrated its 8th Institute Day amid much fanfare in the auditorium at Samantapuri campus, here in the city, Wednesday.
The event was inaugurated by the chief secretary of the government of Orissa, Gokul Chandra Pati. The chief secretary took part in a sapling plantation programme, which was part of the event. In his speech, Pati advised the students to focus on their goals for which they need to be attentive.
Pati was of the opinion that the state government and the IIT Bhubaneswar could come up with innovative solutions for the benefits of the poorest of the poor, if they both worked together. Joint efforts can lead to various technological innovations, he added.
RV Raja Kumar, director of the Institute, thanked everybody present on behalf of the students and the staff. Kumar said that the institution had been, since its inception, organising activities so that students can get more exposure in their respective fields.
The thanksgiving was followed by a musical performance by santoor exponent Tarun Bhattacharya. He was supported by Prasanjit Podar on tabla. The santoor-tabla duet made the audience stay glued to their seats. Later, a cultural programme was also staged by the students of the institution. They performed eastern dance and light music at the event.
