Nuapada: With the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019 coming into effect September 1, the Traffic Police of several cities have pulled up their socks to stringently enforce the new rules leaving little breathing space for violators.
Police have devised a new way to check traffic violations.
The Inspector in Charge (IIC) of Khariyar police in Nuapada district has taken an initiative to create awareness among students hoping to yield the best results. They visited several schools in the district Thursday to create awareness on the new traffic rules. Both the male and lady police under the leadership of IIC of Khariyar Kailash Chandra Sethi had taken the initiative to reach out to students with messages to check road accidents, road safety and new traffic rules.
The decision to spread the messages through school students was taken as the police consider that it is easier to reach more and more people through children.
Citing an example, they had given training to the students to create awareness in their homes like to ask their father and other members using vehicle to use helmet while going out of the homes. The officials believe that people will start following traffic rules and might never forget the message if it comes from a child.
So at a time, one school student can spread the message on road safety to at least four to five members of his/her family.
The awareness drive among the school students has created some impact in the Khariyar locality. Imposing penalties on traffic violators is not the intention of the police. If they carefully obey the traffic rules then only the whole nation will be accident free, the police said.
