Attabira: Even as the government and PWD department spend crores of rupees on road safety awareness programmes, Jogipali road under Bheden block in Baragarh district has turned to be a death zone.
Relatives of villagers refuse to visit the village due to the bad shape of the road. School and college students are facing various difficulties while communicating on this road. No surprise, accidents on the road are a common affair.
Several factors are responsible for accidents. Potholes, bad shape of road, stray bovines and absence of warning signages at accidents have made the road accident prone.
Owing to traffic jams, buses and school vans were seen getting stuck for hours. Children often get late reaching schools and return home late. Worse, patients going in ambulances lay stranded for hours despite emergency.
In dry season, the area remains polluted due to clouds of dust rising from the road while in rainy season, commuting woes worsen with water poodles and craters.
Thousands of villagers of Jogipali, Padhanpali, Jamapali, Rishamunda and Baghiapali depend on the village.
Locals had submitted a memorandum to the Collector seeking repair of the road. As nothing had been done, they also took up the issue at the Collector’s grievances hearing.
When Bheden block BDO Muralidhar Nayak was asked in this regard he said after conducting an inspection, we will construct the road.
