Bhubaneswar, Dec 21: Capital Hospital has brought a smile to the people in the state who are suffering from diabetes. The hospital has set up a special diabetes screening and counseling centre on its premises that will function from Thursday.
The diabetes center, which came up in collaboration with the Novo Nordisk Educational Foundation, will provide free screening and counseling to patients two days in a week — Thursdays and Fridays. It will remain open from 8 am till noon and from 4 pm to 6 pm.
“The patients will be screened properly and given counseling on healthy diet, medication and lifestyle modification, which is essential to control diabetes. The serious patients will be referred to various hospitals according to their condition,” said Binod Mishra, superintendent of Capital Hospital.
Mishra said that the hospital administration has provided the infrastructure for the diabetes centre, adding that the manpower will be provided by the Novo Nordisk Educational Foundation.
“This is a good move by the hospital to provide free screening and counseling to diabetics. Earlier we were forced to go to private hospitals. This centre at the hospital will certainly prove a boon for all,” said Shyamli Mohanty, the attendant of a patient here.
In Orissa, an estimated 30 lakh people suffer from diabetes. The recent trend in the state revealed that six in every 100 persons in rural areas and 16 in every 100 in urban areas are diabetics.
