Tirtol: A youth was arrested on the charges of raping a 16-year-old girl and making an attempt to kill her here in Jagatsinghpur district, police said Sunday.
The accused was identified as Pradip Kuanr. Police registered a case and questioned Kuanr after taking him into custody. A medical examination was conducted on the victim and the accused was produced in a court, Tirtol IIC Krushna Chandra Mishra said.
According to the case diary, Pradip lured the girl into physical relationship after promising to marry her. However, he refused to marry her when she insisted.
The accused Thursday night rang up the girl and asked her to meet him to discuss about their marriage. The girl met him at a secluded place where the accused forced himself on her. As the girl resisted, he got infuriated and tried to strangle her. Family members rescued the girl in a critical condition and admitted her to a hospital. Later, they lodged a complaint with police.
