New Delhi: The state government Monday sought the Centre’s support in building a skill development centre in Bhubaneswar.
After attending the annual national conference of state ministers here, Odisha Skill Development Minister Premananda Nayak said he has sought financial support from the Union government to build the skill development centre in the state.
He also said many students do not get opportunity for apprenticeship in the industries which deprive them of developing their skills.
He urged the Union government to bring a proposal where the industries shall sign memorandums of understanding with the state governments to provide apprenticeship to the students. He added that the governments of big states where there are many industries shall provide opportunity to the students belonging to states like Odisha, where the number of industries is very less.
Significantly, Union Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey Monday announced Centre’s commitment to provide Rs 560 crore to the state governments to promote demand driven, industry linked skill development at the ground level.
“The states should ensure integration of skills right at the school level so that the youth can decide which skills to hone. At the university level, we should promote apprenticeship training as part the regular degree courses, since on-the-job training is the pre-requisite for any job,” Pandey said.
