Rayagada: Rayagada Police Tuesday arrested a youth on charges of damaging photos of Hindu deities, setting them ablaze and later circulating a video of the act on social media.
The accused have been identified as Agasti Gareda and some of his associates.
The matter came to light after some locals lodged a complaint at the police station against Agasti and his associates for desecrating Hindu deities.
Following the complaint, police arrested Agasti and launched a manhunt to trace the other accused persons who are still absconding.
According to a police official, Agasti along with few other youths first worshipped the picture of Dr BR Ambedkar and later burnt the pictures of Hindu deities, added sources.
Rayagada Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarbana Vivek M said, a case has been registered and the main accused that was seen inciting others for communal violence has been arrested.
