Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) Friday directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police to submit their reports along with the case diary in nurse Niharika Patra murder case.
Earlier, the deceased’s parents had refuted the police version that denied the involvement of friends of the prime accused Kishore Aanchal alias Raja in the murder. The police probe report has concluded that Anchal alone committed the crime without the help of any of his friends.
Subsequently, her parents and city-based human rights activist, Pradipta Kumar Nayak, moved the OHRC urging it to direct the Crime Branch to investigate the case and immediately arrest other accused persons involved in the murder of Niharika September 8.
The activist also demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation for Niharika’s parents as she was the sole bread earner of the family.
Hearing the case, the rights panel asked the DCP, Cuttack and SP, Jagatsinghpur to produce separate reports on the plaint filed by Niharika’s parents. The commission instructed the police to probe the matter by a SP rank police officer.
The Jagatsinghpur SP has been instructed by the commission to produce the case diary in the murder case (116/19) registered at Brirdi police station.
Case diary is a document in which the record of daily investigation into a case is mentioned under the provision of Section 172 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The officials have been asked to produce the reports October 28 by an officer well versed on the case.
Notably, an enraged Aanchal killed Niharika after an altercation over marriage September 8 evening at the residence of former’s friend Sunil, said the police. Anchal was arrested near Hajipur September 20, three days after Niharika’s body was recovered from Biluakhai River.
Parents of the deceased nurse had lodged a missing complaint with the Madhupatna police as well.
