Bhubaneswar, August 2: Numerous school children Sunday paid their tributes to the former president Late APJ Abdul Kalam by making paintings on him and his accomplishments. The event was organised on the premises of the Orissa modern art gallery near the Forest Park area in the city.
The organisers were overwhelmed by the response they got from the students, who gathered at the venue and made paintings on the departed scientist, who is often considered as the ‘missile man’ of India. Subrat Mohanty, one of the organisers of the event said, “The main motive behind organising the event was to pay tribute to the ex-President, who is adored by the people of all age groups. Around 60 students took part in the event and made the event a successful one.”
While many children were seen making portraits of Kalam, others tried their hands in drawing pictures based on some phase in the life of the former president.
11-year-old Debasish Mohanty, who took part in the event, said, “I love to make paintings. Recently we heard the news of the demise of our former President, who brought laurels to our country through his scientific contributions to the society. I am here today to pay my tributes to the great person. I am making a portrait of Kalam here.”
Sumita Behera, the mother of one of the children, who participated in the event said, “We all respected Kalam for the valuable contributions he made to the country. My 12-year-old child who studies in Class VI now also respects him a lot and is fond of his videos on the internet. He egged me on to come to this event so that he can make some paintings on him.”
