Bhubaneswar, Dec 25: Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) Thursday registered a footfall of 34,181 — the highest in the Christmas Eve in the past three years — raking up revenue of more than Rs 5 lakh.
The premier zoo famous for its white tigers has been successfully drawing visitors not only from the state but from across the country for several years.
In the last fiscal and 2012-13, the zoo had posted a footfall of 33,132 and 30,700 on Christmas day, which is, according to the officials, a good footfall.
Thousands of people are seen queuing up at ticket counters at the zoo Thursday along with their families.
Zoo deputy director Jayant Dash said that as many new facilities have been added up this year, visitors’ footfall has increased considerably almost throughout the year. “Toilet and drinking water facilities have been improved,” he said.
Notably, a new bird aviary and an open leopard enclosure will be thrown open for visitors on the foundation day of zoo to be held December 29.
