Berhampur, August 25: After chikungunya, dengue seems to be spreading its menace in Ganjam district with four patients detected with the disease so far.
A 36-year old man from Hinjili was referred to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here after his blood samples tested positive for dengue in a private laboratory Sunday.
“The patient has been admitted to the medicine ward of the hospital,” said MKCG superintendent A K Behera.
With this, four dengue cases have been reported in the district so far. Earlier, dengue patients were detected at Tikarada in Rangeilunda block, Jagannath Prasad and Gandhi Nagar in Berhampur. The three persons got infected in Bangalore, district malaria officer U S Mishra said.
Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) and Anganwadi workers have been educating people to destroy mosquito breeding grounds. The awareness drive is part of a campaign against malaria, dengue and diarrhoea in the district, he said. The drive, which started August 8, will end October 17. Meanwhile, the MKCG authorities have opened a 10-bed dengue ward to address the problem.
