Bhubaneswar, Sept 3: Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) – II and Mothers Public School registered contrasting wins in their respective matches of the Inter-School MCL Cup football tournament at the Unit-VI Ground here Thursday.
KV-II pipped Xavier’s Kedargouri 1-0 in a Group B match. Asutosh Basantara scored the all important goal of the match. Xavier’s players tried their best, but could not find the equaliser till the last moment. Arun Biswal bagged the man of the match award.
In a lop-sided encounter of Group C, Mothers Public School spanked Xavier Kandagiri by 10-0. Subham Mohanty of the winning team netted five goals in the 17th, 19th, 24th, 27th and 39th minutes respectively. Sourish Mishra struck a hat-trick by scoring in the second, 25th, and 31st minutes respectively. Sarthak Sarangi scored a brace in the sixth and 29th minutes. Subham was adjudged the man of the match.
Selection camp
Football Association of Orissa (FAO) will organise a selection trial camp for the state junior girls’ team at Cuttack, September 7. The selected players will participate in the upcoming Junior Girls’ National Football Championship.
Tennis tourney
Orissa Tennis Association (OTA) will organise the AITA-OTA Super Series Tennis Tournament in the U-12 and U-14 boys’ and girls’ categories at the Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex here September 7 -18.
“The champion and runner-up will get 50 and 40 rating points respectively. Altogether 205 players from 18 States will participate in the meet,” stated OTA secretary Madhu Sudhan Padhy in a press meet here Thursday.
