Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: The Commissionerate Police has tightened security in the twin cities ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Sources said CP is in damage control mode after a recently-released CAG report pointed out that the crime rate in the twin cities during 2008 to 2013 was three per every 1,000 population, which was 50 per cent more than the state average.
Ahead of major festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Durga Puja, twin city police commissioner RP Sharma Sunday held a closed-door review meeting with Bhubaneswar deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Satyabrata Bhoi, assistant commissioners of police (ACPs), inspectors, and other senior police officers and decided to maintain vigil on habitual offenders. “In the meeting, it was decided that inspectors would keep a close watch on habitual offenders of the area. The directions were given keeping in mind the forthcoming festive season,” Sharma told Orissa POST.
“We also discussed ways to strengthen the police control room (PCR) system,” he said.This comes after the capital city witnessed a series of loot cases within a span of five months.Recently, CP arrested 13 notorious criminals in three separate raids here. All those arrested had criminal antecedents and were involved in crimes like loot, dacoity, and snatching.
One country-made pistol, two rounds of 9 mm ammunition, two machetes, one air pistol, eight gold chains, eight motorcycles, 13 mobile phones, 40 SIM cards and `20,000 in cash were seized from their possession.
