Khallikote, Sept 9: Two persons were killed and 10 others were injured seriously after a mini truck they were travelling in overturned at Bada Ghat here in Ganjam district Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Jhunu Pradhan (30) of Kumbhidhipa and Sabitri Pradhan(50) of Kharinipada villages of the district. The critically injured – Sombari Pradhan, Kanak Pradhan, Madan Pradhan, Chandra Pradhan, Pinky Sethy, Debaraj Jena, Kalia and three others of Kharinipada village were sent to MKCG Medical College and Hospital of Berhampur. Kalia was shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital as his condition worsened.
According to reports, several labourers of Pitagadia, Kumbhidhipa and Kalinjipali areas under this block were on their way from Balugaon in a pick-up van. On a curve near Bada Ghat, one of the tyres of the vehicle deflated and the van turned turtle. All the occupants of the vehicles were critically injured in the mishap and rushed to a local hospital where Jhunu and Savitri were declared dead. Later, the injured persons were shifted to Berhampur.
On being informed, local police reached the spot and seized the vehicle. The bodies were sent to Berhampur for post-mortem, the police said.
