Malkangiri, Sept 20: Suspected Maoists Sunday gunned down a youth of Sergiguda under Mathili police limits of the district. The victim has been identified as Trinath Madhi.
The Naxalites are reported to have eliminated the youth in protest against Saturday’s Bhejaguda encounter in which a notoriopus Naxalite commander was killed. He was among the three persons who were killed in the encounter.
Malkangiri police earlier claimed to have gunned down the Maoist who had masterminded the May 2013 ambush at Chhattisgarh’s Darbha Ghati area in which more than 30 people, including senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma and former Union minister Vidya Charan Shukla had been killed. Police said the Maoist was killed during an encounter with police in the Sergiguda forests.
Malkangiri superintendent of police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said, “Sonadhar, the secretary of Kanger valley area committee of the CPI (Maoist), was killed along with two of his bodyguards in Bhejaguda forest in Mathili during the encounter.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team of Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force launched a combing operation in Bhejaguda where they came face to face with the Maoists. They were killed after heavy exchange of fire between the two sides.”
Meanwhile, the district police Sunday identified the second slain ultra. He was identified as Ghasi Mutaki, a militia member of Darabha division of Maoists in the neighbouring Chhattisgarh state. Mutaki is a native of Galiaguda in Mahupadar panchayat under Mathili police limits of the district. He was working as the bodyguard of Sunadhar. The state had announced a reward of `1 lakh on his head. Police identified the third ultra as Lachhman Kunjami.
