Looking for fun? A harmless prank is a good way for you and your friends to have a hearty laugh. Funny, outrageous and sometimes plain bizarre, Bollywood films whether comedy, action or drama always had some or the other iconic prank scene where practical jokes would range from lame to spectacularly orchestrated ones.
Remember the movie Ishq in which Aamir Khan returns as a ghost to take revenge on Juhi Chawla but his prank takes a negative turn when Juhi comes to know that it was just a prank and slaps him for his foolish behaviour. So, sometimes consciously or unconsciously, we cross limits while playing pranks in the company of friends and often things take an ugly turn. These prank-turned-ugly stories were candidly narrated to Orissa POST:
Reshma Khatoon says, “There are a number of cases when the prank I played took a negative a turn. Recently, one of my friends got angry with me after taking a joke seriously. I teased her by saying that because she had a boyfriend she didn’t give me enough importance knowing very well she had no such boyfriend. She took the joke in a negative way assuming I was blaming her and stopped talking to me. Our friendship took a negative turn and now she’s like friend-turned- foe but people should understand the context upon which a prank is based. If you can’t take the pain of a prank being played on you better not think of playing one on others.”
Anushree Nayak who lives in Daringbadi says playing a prank was a thing she loved most in college but, unfortunately, had to pay for her sin many a time. “It was in 2011 when I realised that playing pranks can be a tough task. It all happened when I and my best friend decided to play a prank with our friends to show them that we are no longer friends. It was difficult to do as everyone in the college knew that we were Sholay’s Jay- Veeru and nothing could ever go wrong. So we decided to play a prank, stopped talking to each other and as time passed everybody noticed and grew curious. Things started to get worse when the prank assumed a serious form and it seemed as if our friendship had really hit a dead end. My best friend stopped talking to me and I found out that one mischief-monger had taken advantage of our drama to sour my friend’s mind. From that day onwards my friend has stopped talking to me and I have realised that playing pranks can end up in tragedy and separation.”
Debasish Kumar Mohanta, a Bhubaneswar-based designer, shares his experience: “When I was in Class VII one of my friends invited us to his birthday party and to make it more it me more memorable we made a Cadbury chocolate of clay and wrapped it properly. We thought it would be fun when he opened the packet. But all our excitement was doused when a friend unknowingly gifted the chocolate to our principal and the incident came to the notice of the school authorities. Principal Sir was furious and so was the friend at me for he knew nothing about the prank and had to receive a sound drubbing from the principal.”
