Malkangiri, Sept 23: Maoist activities in the cut-off areas of this district are under the scanner of security agencies and special tactics would be followed in coming days to intensify anti-insurgency operations, said director general of police (DGP) Sanjiv Marik here Wednesday.
Addressing the media at the district police headquarters, Marik said the purpose of his visit was to encourage Border Security Force, Cobra battalion, Special Operation Group and District Voluntary Force jawans who risk their lives to battle left wing extremism.
There would be better coordination between security personnel involved in the operations and the police department, Marik said. He laid emphasis on measures to ensure the return of armed Maoist cadres and their supporters to the mainstream. Better rehabilitation package would be dished out to surrendered cadres as per norms and thoughts are on for the recently surrendered Maoist sympathizers, Marik said.
The DGP said more forces would be deployed in the areas bordering Chhattisgarh and cut-off regions.
According to reports, Maoist violence is on the rise in areas like Kalimela and Mahupadar of the district. The police department is adopting a special policy to maintain law and order in those areas and make sure the ultras shun violence.
Elaborating the plan, the DGP informed that he had a discussion with the chief secretary over the whole issue. A government delegation would visit the area in seven days to review the development works undertaken in Maoist-infested regions, he said.
Efforts would be made to bring peace in the area by strengthening the intelligence wing and intensifying combing operations in the border, Marik said.
Responding to a question over a recent interview of Maoist leader Binod Kashyap where the latter dubbed Vegaguda encounter as fake, Marik said it was a lie. It has been a practice on the part of Maoist leaders to blame the security agencies, he said.
