Bhubaneswar, Oct 6: The government of Orissa has decided to open 100 model schools across the state in the next academic year. The decision was taken at a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
School and mass education minister (S&ME) Debi Prasad Mishra said, “The state government has set the target to open model schools in all 314 blocks of the state. Of these, 100 will begin functioning from the next academic session in the first phase.”
Mishra said the government is also working towards recruiting 1,776 employees, including 1,332 teachers, for the model schools. He added that the government has already initiated appointment of the teachers and 440 staffers and will be completing the process by March next.
At the meeting, the chief minister also directed officials to expedite construction of buildings and other infrastructure to ensure that the model schools become operational from the next academic session.
Last May the (S&ME) department had issued a notification for opening 111 model schools in the pattern of Kendriya Vidyalayas in educationally backward blocks of the state from 2015-16 academic session.
The notification provided 50 per cent reservation for girl students and stated that the schools were to follow CBSE syllabus, with English as first language and Oriya as second language.
These schools were envisaged to be managed by Orissa Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan formed by the state. The schools were to offer education from Class VI to Class XII and would include vocational courses as a major part of the curriculum.
