Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: A poor girl of 13 suffering from multiple cirrhosis was allegedly shown the doors Tuesday by a top private hospital in the city where she had been under treatment for about three months.
Biswa Aishwarya Pandey, accompanied by her father Aryabrata Pandey, who is an egg-seller by profession, then approached Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at his residence and was assured of help. “Some officials told me that funds have already been released from the CM’s office and assured me that the treatment of my daughter will resume soon,” said Pandey to journalists.
Three months ago, the father and daughter had approached the chief minister with the plea for financial help for the girl’s treatment. The CM had then helped Aishwarya with a financial support of `1.98 lakh towards treatment. “I and my daughter had gone to the chief minister in May. After hearing our plight, he had provided `1.98 lakh to that private hospital for the treatment of my daughter. She was under treatment for two and a half months, but when the money was used up towards treatment costs, the hospital administrator showed us the doors,” said Pandey.
With the total cost of Aishwarya’s treatment amounting to `3.24 lakh for six months, the CM had assured of facilitating provision of the entire cost. “Due to a delay in releasing the funds, the private hospital refused to treat my daughter. She cannot see now and often collapses suddenly,” said her father.
