Bhubaneswar, Oct 19: In a shocking set of accusations, a man lodged a complaint with Khandagiri police Sunday alleging that his wife was forcing their minor daughter to enter into the flesh trade.
Police said Pradeep Parida, a resident of Bharatpur who was earlier running a stationery shop in Surat, Gujarat, alleged that his wife, Reena Parida, was forcing their daughter to enter into flesh trade. Pradeep also claimed that Reena continued an extramarital affair with one Debananda Pradhan of Kendrapara.
“When we were in Surat, Pradhan also came there. Sensing the illicit relation going on between him and my wife, I decided in 2014 to come back to Orissa along with her and my daughter. Pradhan also followed us back. He and my wife then physically assaulted me and drove me away from my house. Pradhan then started sexually harassing my daughter,” said Pradeep.
His younger brother, Dilip Parida, said that his niece and his elder brother had been staying with him for quite some time. “Pradhan has also threatened me of dire consequences for giving them shelter. We lodged a complaint in this regard with Mahila Commission 15 days back, but they have not taken any action so far. Tomorrow we will go and meet Bhubaneswar DCP and take up the matter with him,” he added.
Sources familiar with the developments said that Reena Parida might be eyeing the two plots of land Pradeep owns. “Pradeep has two plots in Bharatpur area, one in the name of his mother and the other registered in his name. Reena is eyeing both the plots,” said a source. A social organisation, Orissa Nari Sachetana Mancha, is helping the minor girl, who has studied till class VII, to get justice. Khandagiri police said they are examining the complaint lodged by Pradeep Parida and have called Reena for questioning.
